I managed to score some tickets to travel a little farther than usual sometime later this year. That means that finally, my pending travel blog idea may finally come into fruition. As you may already know, it just takes some momentum to jumpstart anything. :)

hey there! thanks for getting in touch. if you go visit borobudur, you should also check out prambanan, a beauiful and impressive 9th century hindu temple outside of yogya. there’s a bus from the city that takes you there directly to prambanan. to get to borobudur from yogya, you have to take a couple buses, but people will help you and let you know where to get off, which bus to take, etc.
i enjoyed solo and the surrounding areas. definitely check out candi sukuh and cetho. the scenery along the way is gorgeous. also, i highly recommend visiting the local markets! renting a bicycle and exploring nearby villages is always nice too.
in java, i also went to bromo (expect hordes of tourists and 4wd jeeps) and kawah ijen (less touristy, but no public transportation). i tried to take local transportation as much as possible and avoided shuttle buses for foreign visitors. there’s a huge price difference. also, it’s nice to meet and chat with the locals. while waiting for the bus, i met an indonesian family and ended up spending the entire day with them and spent the night at their house. you’ll meet many incredibly friendly people who want to take you home with them :) you’ll definitely learn something about the culture!
good luck and i hope you have an awesome time! if you have any more questions, feel free to send me a message over at my blog or you can email me at asakoc@gmail.com. xo
